Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and reliable University Statistics Tutor to support students in mastering key concepts found in general statistics courses offered at Ontario universities. The ideal candidate will have recently completed one or more university-level statistics courses in Ontario with strong academic performance and be able to demonstrate clear proficiency across core statistical topics. Tutors must be able to adapt explanations to suit students from various academic programs, including business, psychology, health sciences and social sciences.

Duties

  • Provide virtual one-on-one tutoring for university students enrolled in introductory or intermediate statistics courses
  • Support students with: Descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, variance, standard deviation), Probability theory and probability distributions (binomial, normal, Poisson, etc.), Confidence intervals and hypothesis testing (t-tests, z-tests, ANOVA), Chi-square tests and non-parametric testing, Correlation and regression (simple linear and multiple), Statistical inference and sampling techniques, Data interpretation using statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Excel)
  • Help students prepare for assignments, midterms, exams and labs
  • Communicate regularly with students (and parents where applicable) and the owner of Prestige Tutors
  • Schedule sessions with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice as needed
  • Share practice quizzes, tests or review sheets (provided by the owner) with students as appropriate
  • Track student progress and adjust tutoring strategies accordingly

Skills

  • Strong understanding of university-level statistics content
  • Ability to use and teach statistical software (R, SPSS, Excel, etc.)
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills for scheduling, follow-ups and student progress tracking
  • Adaptability to different learning styles and program expectations
  • Comfortable with digital tools such as Zoom, Google Meet and online whiteboards
  • Ability to explain abstract statistical concepts in a clear and accessible manner

Attributes

  • Completed at least one university-level statistics course in Ontario within the last 5 years
  • Minimum grade of 85% or equivalent in relevant courses preferred
  • Patient, supportive and student-focused approach
  • Professional and responsive communicator
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience in statistics is strongly preferred
  • Reliable access to stable internet and a quiet tutoring environment
  • Passion for helping others succeed academically
