Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Ethnic Food Cook – Kosher for Apex Kosher Catering located at 100 Elder St, North York, ON M3H 5G7, Canada.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook complete kosher meals and traditional Jewish dishes in accordance with kashrut dietary laws.
  • Follow strict kosher food handling practices, including segregation of meat and dairy, proper ingredient sourcing, and designated cooking equipment usage.
  • Verify all ingredients, packaged goods, and supplies bear acceptable kosher certification before use.
  • Maintain separate workstations, utensils, tools, and storage areas for meat, dairy, and pareve items to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Prepare ethnic kosher specialties for Shabbat dinners, holiday meals, simchas, catering events, and community functions.
  • Collaborate with mashgiach (kosher supervisor) to ensure all kitchen operations meet rabbinical standards and kosher certification requirements.
  • Cook special meals for clients with additional dietary needs, allergies, or cultural restrictions as directed by the chef or supervisor.
  • Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers during meal preparation, ensuring adherence to kosher protocols.
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation timelines, cooking processes, and event-based production requirements.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of kosher ingredients, supplies, and equipment, ensuring compliance with kosher storage guidelines.
  • Clean kitchen, equipment, and work areas following kosher sanitation procedures to ensure compliance with both food safety and kashrut rules.
  • Train new kitchen staff in kosher food preparation, safe handling procedures, and company culinary standards.
  • Contribute to menu planning for kosher meals, determine portion sizes, and estimate food requirements for events and daily production.
  • Monitor food quality, flavor profiles, and presentation standards consistent with authentic kosher culinary expectations.

Prerequisites:

Education: Secondary (high) School graduation certificate or equivalent

Experience & Skills: 3 years to less than 5 years of experience in Hospitality Industry

Language: English

Hourly Rate: $36 to $38 per Hour for 30 to 40 Hours per week

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Terms of Employment: Fulltime and permanent
